1. Introduction & Controller Identity
This Privacy Policy explains how Campus Assistant Nigeria ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal data when you use the Campus Assistant Platform.
We are committed to the Data Minimisation Principle (NDPA 2023 §2.1(b)) — we only collect data that is strictly necessary to provide our services.
Campus Assistant Nigeria is the Data Controller for all personal data processed under this Policy. Our Data Protection Officer can be reached at dpo@campusassistant.ng.

Data We Do NOT Collect
- National Identification Number (NIN) — not collected per NDPA §2.1(b) proportionality test.
- Bank account numbers or card PANs — handled exclusively by Paystack (CBN-licensed PSP).
- Biometric data (fingerprints, facial recognition).
- Location data beyond IP address.
- Third-party advertising or analytics cookies.
Sensitive Data — Date of Birth & Gender
We collect date of birth and gender for age verification, eligibility confirmation, and platform personalisation. Gender is optional beyond "prefer not to say". Date of birth is used to verify that you are at least 15 years old. Neither is shared with other Users.
3. AI Processing Disclosure
We use Anthropic's Claude AI in two contexts. Under NDPA 2023 §2.4 (automated decision-making disclosure), we are required to inform you about significant automated processing:
A. Signup Vetting (automated, at registration)
When you register as a student, we submit your declared university, faculty, department, academic level, and matric number to an AI model to check plausibility. The AI does not contact your institution; it applies pattern-based checks. If the AI flags a significant discrepancy (confidence ≥ 85%), your registration may be blocked. The result is stored on your account and visible to Platform Administrators. You may contest a block by emailing support@campusassistant.ng.
B. Chat Safety Monitoring (automated, ongoing)
Task-related chat messages are screened automatically for potential policy violations. A keyword pre-screen runs first; if potential violations are detected, a short message context (up to 5 messages, max 400 tokens) is submitted to the AI for evaluation. Flagged content triggers a cooldown or bot warning. Human Administrators review cases before account-level action is taken. No chat content is retained by Anthropic beyond immediate processing.
C. Classmates Feature
During student registration, the Platform may display the surnames of existing students enrolled at the same university, department, and academic level. This is limited to surnames only (no full names, emails, or other data) and is provided as a vetting aid. By registering as a student, you consent to your surname being visible in this feature to prospective students at your institution in the same department and level.
4. How We Use Your Data
- ·Service delivery: Account management, task matching, subscription management.
- ·Identity verification: Verifying you are a genuine student at the university you declared using AI plausibility checks and duplicate detection.
- ·Safety & fraud prevention: Velocity monitoring (CBN AML/CFT §6), IP-based rate limiting, fraud scoring, chat safety monitoring, and activity audit logs.
- ·Referral programme: Tracking referrals and calculating commissions for Marketers and inviting Students.
- ·Communications: Transactional emails only — OTP codes, task updates, payment receipts, account alerts. No marketing emails without explicit consent.
- ·Legal compliance: Responding to lawful requests from NDPC, CBN, FCCPC, EFCC, or courts with valid orders.
- ·Platform improvement: Aggregated, anonymised analytics to improve features. No individual profiling for advertising.
5. Data Retention
| Data Type | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Account & identity data | Duration of account + 7 years (FIRS requirement) |
| Transaction records | 7 years (CBN AML/CFT §14) |
| Audit logs | 2 years |
| Chat messages | Duration of task + 1 year, then anonymised |
| AI vet results | Duration of account + 2 years |
| OTP / session tokens | 24 hours |
| IP address logs | 90 days |
| Payout records | 7 years (FIRS / CBN requirement) |
After a retention period expires, data is securely deleted or anonymised such that it cannot be re-identified.
6. Data Security
- ·Phone numbers encrypted with AES-256-GCM at rest; Wallet balances additionally encrypted.
- ·TLS 1.3 enforced for all API calls and data in transit.
- ·Role-based access control with Row Level Security (RLS) via Supabase / PostgreSQL — each role can only query its own data.
- ·All privileged administrative actions are logged with IP address, timestamp, and user-agent (immutable audit trail).
- ·Optional TOTP two-factor authentication (2FA) available to all users.
- ·Rate limiting on all authentication endpoints to prevent brute-force attacks.
- ·Passwords hashed with bcrypt (cost factor 12) — plain-text passwords are never stored.
- ·AI data submissions are sent over TLS and are not used for model training by Anthropic under our DPA.
7. Third-Party Data Processors
